Seputeh member of parliament (MP) Teresa Kok has been recently accused of leaving an insensitive comment on fellow politician Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's social media post of his cat's death

The Muar MP had expressed his sadness on his Facebook and Twitter accounts on Tuesday, 28 February, after his cat died.

"Toby, my beloved cat has left us. So sudden. So sad. I miss him so much. Thank you for being there for me in the toughest of times. May you rest well in 'cat heaven'," he wrote.

He also posted adorable images of himself posing and spending time with his beloved orange cat.

Thousands of social media users responded to Syed Saddiq's posts with heartfelt condolences over his loss.

However, Kok allegedly decided to question his cat's health and weight before it died.

According to screenshots on local subreddit thread r/Malaysia and Facebook page 'Meanwhile in Malaysia', some netizens saw that the MP had commented, "Your cat is overweight, he must have eaten too much, he might have high cholesterol and high sugar. You didn't help him to jaga badan (take care of its body). No wonder he died so early."

At the time of writing, Kok's comment on the Facebook post cannot be found.

Nevertheless, screenshots of the alleged comment have gone viral, with Malaysians criticising Kok for her lack of empathy

"What she said is true, but the timing is just totally wrong. Let's say when somebody from your family died, [would you also say] the same thing? Please show some respect to other people, or at least have some empathy," lambasted a Facebook user.

"And aunty thinks she's very funny, is it? Does she know some people see their pets as their family member? Shake my head," said another.

A netizen said, "Typical aunty response. Condescending know-it-all giving unsolicited advice at the most inappropriate time."

The MUDA president shared many photos and memories with his cat earlier this week:

While declaring assets last year, the politician had included his two cats in the list, calling them "invaluable":

This is not the first time the Seputeh MP has gone viral for the wrong reasons:
